|---|---|
| Default handle | 3 to 18 characters before .bsky.social |
| Characters | Letters, numbers and hyphens |
| Custom domain | Any domain you control, such as yourname.com |
Why a custom domain handle is invalid
Bluesky cannot match the domain to your account. The fix is one DNS TXT record at _atproto.yourhandle with the value did=yourDID, or a file at /.well-known/atproto-did on the domain. Once it resolves, the handle verifies.
Why use a custom domain
A domain handle shows that you or your organization control the domain, which works as a simple form of verification and is part of a strong Bluesky profile.
