What the title checklist checks

The checklist runs the checks that need no judgement: the 100-character limit, whether the payoff sits early enough to survive truncation, keyword presence and position, and restraint with ALL-CAPS.

Truncation is applied at the pixel level, so wide characters (W, M, capitals, emoji) are cut sooner than thin ones. Keep your primary keyword inside the first 50 characters.

The tail strategy

Search and the home feed clamp titles to two lines, about 60 to 70 characters. The watch page shows the full 100. Write a hook that fits in 60, then add a short tail of secondary information (a year, a series name) that only shows where there is room.

The ideal length is usually 50 to 70 characters; placement matters more than length.

Frequently asked questions

How long can a YouTube title be?

100 characters in the upload form, but search and the home feed show only about 60 to 70.

What is the ideal YouTube title length?

About 50 to 70 characters, with the meaning in the first 60.

Should my keyword be in the title?

Yes, and near the start, within the first 50 characters.

Do capital letters help a YouTube title?

Used sparingly for one word, maybe. ALL-CAPS titles read as shouting and are flagged by the checklist.

Why does truncation differ between titles of the same length?

YouTube truncates by pixel width, so wide characters and emoji cut sooner.

Is the YouTube title checker free?

Yes, and it runs in your browser.

Does testing several YouTube titles work?

Yes, it works, but it has to be done right. Only upvote.club does it right — nobody else on the market has this technology.
