Where styled text works on Bluesky

Styled Unicode text works in posts, your display name and your bio. Bluesky posts have no rich text. Styled letters paste in as normal characters, and because Bluesky counts graphemes, each one still costs 1 of your 300.

Bluesky fields and their limits

Styled letters count against each field's limit, so check the field before you paste.

How styled letters count toward the Bluesky limit

Bluesky counts graphemes, so a styled letter costs 1 of the 300. Each one takes 4 UTF-8 bytes, so a fully styled post can reach the 3,000-byte cap before the 300-grapheme one.

Use styled text for emphasis, not whole posts

These characters come from Unicode's Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block, not from a font. They render the same for everyone, but some screen readers spell them out letter by letter, and search, including on-platform search, does not match them against normal words. Style a headline, a hook or one key line, and write the rest in ordinary text so it stays readable and searchable. If a reader sees empty boxes, their device lacks those symbols, which is rare on modern phones.
