A worked example
A Page cover stored at 851 x 315 is shown at 820 x 312 on desktop and 640 x 360 on phones, so anything near the left and right edges disappears on mobile. Upload 1640 x 624 and keep the important part in the centre 640 x 312.
Which post shape works best
Feed posts look best at 4:5 or 1:1. A 4:5 portrait is the tallest shape the feed shows uncropped; a 1.91:1 landscape has the smallest footprint.
