Styled letters are Unicode symbols. Screen readers may read them letter by letter, so keep them for short accents.

Where styled text works on Facebook

Styled Unicode text works in posts, comments and the About text of a page. Facebook posts are plain text. Styled letters, together with clean line breaks, are the only way to make a key line stand out in the News Feed.

Facebook fields and their limits

Styled letters count against each field's limit, so check the field before you paste.

How styled letters count toward the Facebook limit

Each styled letter is a separate Unicode symbol outside the basic range, so it costs 2 UTF-16 units. A line of 50 bold letters takes about 100 of your 63,206.

Use styled text for emphasis, not whole posts

These characters come from Unicode's Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block, not from a font. They render the same for everyone, but some screen readers spell them out letter by letter, and search, including on-platform search, does not match them against normal words. Style a headline, a hook or one key line, and write the rest in ordinary text so it stays readable and searchable. If a reader sees empty boxes, their device lacks those symbols, which is rare on modern phones.
