What Instagram Reels views tell you
Views are what reach looks like on Reels. Smaller accounts post higher view rates because Instagram shows Reels to people who do not follow the creator, and a few thousand extra viewers is a large share of a small base. That is why medians fall as tiers grow.
The formula, with an example
Average views = total views / number of Reels; view rate = median views / followers x 100.
Example: 12 Reels with a median of 4,200 views on an account with 10,000 followers give a 42% view rate, typical for a micro account.

Why view rates fall as accounts grow
Reels reach non-followers. On a small account those extra viewers are a big share of the base, so view rates can top 100%. On a large account the same reach is a small share. Medians for creators fell from 112% of followers at 10K to 50K to 47% at 100K to 500K in one 2026 dataset.
