The size of the signal, before you scan
A stargazer count is the quickest read on interest in a project. Pair it with recent momentum: a repository gaining stars this month tells a different story than one whose stars all arrived years ago.
What else you can see
The count is aggregate: it does not show stargazer names or emails. For growth over time, use the star history chart.
How star history is read from GitHub
Stargazer data comes from GitHub's public API, page by page. Without a token GitHub allows 60 requests per hour; counts for very large repositories can take longer to load.
