Why comment rate matters more than it looks
A comment takes more effort than a like, so comment rate shows whether a post started a conversation. It is a count-based ratio: one person can comment more than once, so it is not the share of unique followers who commented.
In 2026 a lot of genuine engagement has moved out of public comments into private sharing through DMs. Read comment rate alongside shares and saves.
The two formulas
Comment rate = average comments per post / followers x 100
Comment share = comments / (likes + comments) x 100
Example: an account with 40,000 followers has 2,400 comments across its last 12 Reels, 200 per post. Comment rate is 200 / 40,000 x 100 = 0.5%.
By views: a video with 100 comments and 25,000 views has 100 / 25,000 x 100 = 0.40%.
