What the Instagram likes-to-followers ratio measures

The ratio shows what share of your followers like your posts on average. It is a narrower lens than engagement rate: likes are public on every post, so you can calculate it for any account.

Use it alongside comments, saves and shares. Likes are the easiest action, so they say less about depth than a comment or a save.

How to calculate the likes-to-followers ratio on Instagram

(Average likes per post / Followers) x 100

Example: an account with 25,000 followers averaging 300 likes per post has (300 / 25,000) x 100 = 1.2%.

A second example: posts with 300, 420, 350, 280, 510, 390, 440, 320, 370 and 420 likes average 380. With 8,000 followers the ratio is 4.75%.

Why an Instagram ratio falls as an account grows

The often-repeated "1% to 3% is good" rule describes small accounts reasonably well and large ones badly. Accounts under 10,000 followers sit around 2%, but the median drops below 1% once an account passes 10,000. So 1% is weak at 5,000 followers and above average at a million.

How to improve your like rate

Post Reels

Reels reach non-followers and usually collect more likes.

Hook in the first frame or line

The first second decides whether people stay.

Post when followers are online

Early likes push the post to more people.

Stay in your niche

Followers who came for one topic like posts on that topic.

How we calculate this

The calculator divides average likes by followers and multiplies by 100. The verdict uses a single scale (low below 1%, average 1% to 3%, good 3% to 5%, excellent 5%+); read it together with the tier table, because the ratio naturally falls as accounts grow.

Important note

Results are planning estimates, not guarantees. Your own numbers over time are the best benchmark.

Frequently asked questions

Is the likes-to-followers ratio the same as engagement rate?

No. Engagement rate also counts comments, shares and saves; this ratio uses likes only.

What is a good likes-to-followers ratio on Instagram?

It depends on size: about 2% is the median for 1K to 10K followers, under 1% above 10K.

Why does my ratio drop as I grow?

Larger audiences engage less per post. Compare with accounts of the same size.

Can I check another account?

Yes. Likes and follower counts are public.

How many posts should I average?

Your last 10 to 12 posts.

What does a ratio above 100% mean?

More likes than followers: usually Reels reaching far beyond the follower base.

Does posting Reels for more likes on Instagram work?

Yes, it works, but it has to be done right. Only upvote.club does it right — nobody else on the market has this technology.

What does a better like rate give an Instagram account?

It grows the account, but you need the right tool.
