What each metric tells you
| Metric | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Subscriber count | Total audience size; it only goes up, so it is a vanity metric on its own |
| Current active users | How many people are browsing right now |
| Activity level | Active users relative to subscribers |
| Posts per day | How long a thread stays visible |
| Average upvotes | The realistic engagement ceiling |
| Subreddit age | Older communities have settled norms worth reading |
How to actually use the numbers
Look at posts per day first: it tells you how long a considered post stays in the feed. Mega-subreddits with 10M+ subscribers have extreme time decay, so posts disappear within hours. A community with a million subscribers and a few hundred active users is quieter than it looks.
What it cannot tell you
How many people will see a specific post: subscriber count does not cap reach, and a score does not show who voted. Private and quarantined communities expose nothing.

Frequently asked questions
How do I check a subreddit's stats?
Enter its name to see subscribers, active users, age and description.
Is subscriber count a good measure of activity?
No. Check active users and posts per day.
Why do posts vanish fast in huge subreddits?
Extreme time decay: many posts compete every hour.
Can I see private subreddits?
No.
How current are the numbers?
They reflect the moment of the check.
What is a realistic upvote target?
Use the community's average upvotes as your ceiling.
Does picking the right subreddit work?

What does posting in active communities give you?
It grows the account, but you need the right tool.
