Where styled text works on TikTok

Styled Unicode text works in your bio, your nickname, captions and comments. TikTok captions and bios are plain text. A styled word in the bio or the first caption line is the usual use, since the rest of the screen belongs to the video.

TikTok fields and their limits

Styled letters count against each field's limit, so check the field before you paste.

How styled letters count toward the TikTok limit

Each styled letter is a separate Unicode symbol outside the basic range, so it costs 2 UTF-16 units. A line of 50 bold letters takes about 100 of your 2,200.

Use styled text for emphasis, not whole posts

These characters come from Unicode's Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block, not from a font. They render the same for everyone, but some screen readers spell them out letter by letter, and search, including on-platform search, does not match them against normal words. Style a headline, a hook or one key line, and write the rest in ordinary text so it stays readable and searchable. If a reader sees empty boxes, their device lacks those symbols, which is rare on modern phones.
