YouTube Monetization Calculator

Enter your subscribers and growth. The milestones mark the subscriber thresholds for each path.

How the calculator works

There are three paths in 2026: standard (1,000 subscribers and 4,000 watch hours in 12 months), Shorts (1,000 subscribers and 10 million Shorts views in 90 days) and early monetization (500 subscribers and 3,000 watch hours).

The calculator projects your subscribers forward and shows when you cross 500 and 1,000. Pair it with the watch time calculator for the hours side.

How to use it

  1. Enter your current count
    Use today's number.
  2. Enter your growth
A monthly percentage (compounding) or a flat number per month.
  3. Set the horizon and read the dates
Drag 12 to 24 months and see when you cross each milestone if the pace holds.

Where to find your numbers in YouTube

  1. YouTube Studio, Analytics
Subscribers and watch time (hours) for the last 12 months.
  2. Shorts views
Shorts views for the last 90 days.
  3. Earn section
Shows your progress toward the thresholds.

Which projection to plan with

Plan with the flat line (the same number of new subscribers each month) and treat the compounding line as the best case. A growth rate is easier to hold while an account is small: the same percentage on a large account means far more new subscribers every month.

What you earn once monetized

Revenue split

YouTube keeps 45% of ad revenue; creators get 55%.

RPM

Most channels see $1 to $5 per 1,000 views after the split; finance, tech and business often $6 to $12+.

Formula

Monthly revenue = views / 1,000 x RPM.

How to reach your goal sooner

Increase Shorts output

Shorts bring new viewers and count toward the Shorts path.

Collaborate

Collaborations put you in front of new audiences.

Optimize titles and thumbnails

Click-through decides how many new viewers you get.

Longer watch sessions

Series and playlists add watch hours.

Subscribers are a lagging metric

Subscribers follow attention. Engagement on your posts moves first, and growth shows up weeks later. If your projection looks flat, check your engagement rate before changing your goal.

The ranges on this page come from the cited public benchmarks. Real growth is uneven: spikes and plateaus, not a smooth curve.
