How YouTube pays creators for ads

YouTube pays creators by RPM: revenue per 1,000 views, after YouTube's share. Earnings = Views / 1,000 x RPM.

Example: 100,000 monthly views at a typical $1.50 to $4.50 RPM is roughly $150 to $450 in ad revenue; a finance channel with the same views might earn $800 to $2,000.

RPM vs. CPM: CPM is what advertisers pay per 1,000 ad impressions before YouTube's share (about 45%) and before unmonetized views. RPM is lower because it is measured after the share and spread across all views.
