A worked example
Take a typical iPhone photo, 4032 x 3024 (4:3):
- Video cover (1080 x 1920): the full height is kept, the width is cut to 1701 px, so about 58% of the width is lost before scaling to 1080 x 1920.
- Landscape (1920 x 1080): the full width is kept, the height is cut to 2268 px, so about 25% of the height is lost before scaling to 1920 x 1080.
